Background
About Conor Doyle
My name is Conor Doyle, I'm a Graduate from University College Dublin (UCD) with a Msc in Space Science and Technology and currently employed as an Earth Observation Scientist at Techworks Marine. I also obtained a BSc in Science with Nanotechnology majoring in Chemistry from Technological University Dublin (TUD). As part of my Masters, I studied modules such as Remote Sensing, Space Environment, Space Mission Design, Satellite Subsystems, Machine Learning, and Planetary Geomorphology. For the Space Mission Design module, our course travelled to Tenerife to design a space mission in collaboration with students from the University of La Laguna (ULL) and the University of Southampton (Soton). Our mission was to study gamma-rays from the Trojans asteroids in Jupiter's Lagrange points L4 and L5 to discover more about the early formation of the Solar System. My role on this project was to design the gamma-ray detector, develop a power system, and carry out the mass and power budgets. For the Satellite Subsystems module, our course worked on a project called TupperSat, a satellite built using a Tupperware shell! In groups, we designed our mission from scratch and developed the satellite for 3 months until it was launched into the Stratosphere on a weather balloon. Our mission was to study the gamma-ray flux at increasing altitudes using a Geiger-Muller tube to develop a human radiation dosage model. My role on this project was systems engineer and payload scientist in which I wrote the code for the payload, carried out tests and verifications for the system, and oversaw the construction/integration of each component into the overall system. The key skills that I have developed on this course are team-work, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, proposal writing, and space technology. I am proficient in coding in MATLAB and Python and I have experience in working with SNAP and QGIS. For final part of my Masters, I carried out a internship at TechWorks Marine. My thesis was based on using Earth Observation techniques to address the challenges faced by Onshore Wind Farm developers in Ireland/Germany. I am looking forward to starting my career in the Space industry!
