About Conor Selkirk

From 2014 to 2018 I was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computational Thinking in Maynooth University. The degree focuses mainly on software development and problem solving, and though I never fully finished the degree I learned a huge amount of software development and programming skills during my time there. I feel that this apprenticeship is a great fit for me as I have the experience and ability to both create my own code and also read and edit other people’s pre-written code. I previously held an internship in Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR). IMR are a research and development hub based in Rathcoole. During my time there I worked on a project based around the idea of Cobotics (collaborative robotics). I worked as part of a team to design a UI for a presentation to display the benefits of Cobotics in the standard industry workplace. I also previously worked as a Server Repair Specialist for GemPool recruitment. I was part of a mobile team tasked with repairing and maintaining an array of different server types in some of the biggest data centres in Ireland. The position involved interacting with both hardware and software, including; replacing and installing different components, flashing and updating software, traversing a Linux based system and diagnosing different errors. This role also involved following many different standard operating procedures, each dependant on what needed to be done with each task assigned. This ranged from replacing broken parts to performing full software updates. Due to the high security nature of the business, each task had a rigorous procedure/specification that had to be followed and documented on completion. I am a hard worker who thrives in a new environment and strives to learn and master any new skills that come my way.
