Background
About Cooper Buckley
I'm passionate about bringing together and representing the systems I'm a part of. As the Vice President of the University of Michigan Engineering Student Government, I collaborate with the executive board and the senate to plan and execute events, initiatives, and programs that enhance the academic, professional, and social experiences of engineering students at the University of Michigan. I also facilitate communication and partnerships with faculty, staff, alumni, and external organizations, working to ensure that the voices of the University are heard and the needs of the student body are met. More than anything, I'm passionate about improving these systems. Whether it's within the scope of logistics, branding, communications, or any other, I believe I can enhance every system I take part in, and I'm invigorated by doing exactly that. For this reason I'm pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering, with a focus in program management, data analysis, and supply chain logistics. This coursework has provided me with valuable experience in system optimization, regression analysis, and linear programming, and will soon provide similarly in operations management, simulation applications, and marketing principles. I've already applied these engineering skills and more to extracurricular organizations such as the UMich Solar Car Team, where I worked to help design and test the car's solar array. I have over two years of professional experience in several industries, especially including energy production, transmission, and consumption. I've completed internships at ITC Holdings and DTE Energy, as well as seasonal work with Williams, Knack & Burrows, P.C, EctoHR, Dick's Sporting Goods, Detroit Street Filling Station, and now the University of Michigan Fine Arts Library. Over the course of these experiences I've learned to automate processes, analyze data, present findings, address customer needs, and communicate effectively with consumers, suppliers, and teammates alike. I'm a motivated, creative, and ever-adaptable leader who continuously strives to make a positive impact in my communities and far beyond. I'm always eager to learn new skills, explore new opportunities, and challenge myself in every facet of my life. I'm excited to get the most out of my final year of ESG and my coursework at UMich, but, even more so, I'm excited to graduate within a few short months (April 2024) and soon apply the knowledge, skills, and and lessons I've acquired to a career harnessing engineering and business for the common good.
