About Corbin Diaz

I am a junior majoring in Data Science and Mathematics with a minor in Cognitive Science at Northwestern University. I am passionate for applying mathematics and statistics to help make a positive impact on the world through data analysis, machine learning, data visualization. I hold a strong skillset in both Python and R, and in the past, I've applied my visualization skills through data dashboards for Chicagoland education non-profit Project SYNCERE and weather data interactives that received first place at Northwestern's research symposium. Having served as a teaching assistant in both the Data Science and Math departments, I enjoy helping a variety of students in tutoring roles to make STEM topics more accessible and easy to understand. Recently, I've researched methods in classifying mysterious infrasound signals through the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Science at Northwestern, and over the summer I'll be diving deeper into potential mathematical methods of signal recovery for their analogue seismogram archives. I am also interested in topics related to neuroscience, notably in mental health and computational or theoretical methods, in particular the intersection of these topics with data science and analytics. Currently, I'm working as a research assistant for large-scale genomic data mining at Northwestern. On the side, I enjoy music, film editing, satirical news writing, and linguistics, and in my free time I like to watch movies, build LEGO sets, and take pictures of sunsets.
