About Coreen Lawrence

I specialize in values-based approaches to collaboration, stakeholder engagement, communications, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), training and coaching. I am passionate about collaborating and connecting with people through values-based conversations. With over a decade specializing primarily in oil and gas stakeholder engagement programs, I use strategic planning, formal mediation, leadership coaching, training, and meeting facilitation, to lead clients and stakeholders step-by-step through values-based processes to achieve successful outcomes. As a Mediator, I bring the skills of conflict resolving to conversations to uncover common ground through exploring common motivations such as: concerns, hopes, expectations, assumptions, beliefs, fears and values. Using a blend of technology and traditional approaches, I hold a high emphasis on engaging ‘hard to reach’ stakeholders and in building capacity with stakeholders and clients to contribute to values-based conversations with highly collaborative outcomes. For six years I worked for Shell in Public Relations and Community Relations roles in highly contentious stakeholder engagement programs for a rapidly developing industrial footprint. In 2005, I created Preferred Method Inc, a firm that incorporates stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution as well as leverages my training and background in public relations. I have led consultations for several successful high-stakes energy regulatory applications through the Alberta Energy and Resources Conservation Board and the National Energy Board. Some of my clients have included: Syncrude, Suncor, Shell, Nexen, PennWest Energy, ConocoPhillips, Burlington, Calgary Board of Education, Gecko Management, City of Calgary Infrastructure, Matrix Logistics, Devon Energy, Fulcrum Strategic, Enmax, Altalink, and PrimeWest Energy Trust.
