Background
About Corey Brann
Currently, I work for Givaudan Flavor Corporation as a Senior Quality Lab Analyst in the Quality Microbiology Lab where I test flavor products to ensure they meet client specifications. As a senior analyst, I perform investigation studies for products that repeatedly fail micro testing and stay in communication with the corresponding departments. I also help improve test methods to ensure they are being performed accurately according to FDA and ISO procedures. Previously, I worked as a microbiologist in the microbiology research and development lab at Q Laboratories and started with the company in 2014, shortly after acquiring a bachelor's in biology. Since that time, I went back to school to obtain a second bachelor's in biomedical engineering. While at Q Laboratories, I have learned how to work as a part of a team to carry out laboratory tasks that include the handling of pathogenic organisms, operation of lab technologies (PCR, VIDAS, Solus, Tempo), plate counting, while abiding by FDA, USDA, AOAC, and ISO methods and regulations. The lab setting is very high pace, making precision and efficiency vital while maintaining aseptic technique. More recently in the R&D lab, I have learned how to conduct AOAC research studies and write their subsequent reports. These studies consist of validations for new technology and test methods for companies across the world. I went back to school for biomedical engineering because I wanted to add an element of creativity and design to my work life that was otherwise missing. I loved the research I did during my time at Wright State University, especially when it came to nanomedicine. My senior design team worked for the nanomedicine department where we were tasked with designing a portable electrospinner that could spin a wound repair patch. The patch solution that we created had two polymers as well as components that could promote wound healing while cleansing the wound. We were able to make those components work effectively and were named the best senior design team in the biomedical engineering department as voted by the departmental staff.
