About Corey Donaldson

Corey is the chair of Ferguson Case Orr Paterson’s intellectual property group and the managing partner of the firm’s Westlake Village office. He practices extensively in patent prosecution and procurement, including design patent matters. He also has extensive experience in trademark and trade dress procurement and enforcement. He represents clientele from a wide range of industries including fashion, fitness, semiconductor devices, fluid mechanical devices, musical instruments, and consumer products. He is admitted to practice, and practices on a daily basis, as a patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In addition to obtaining intellectual property rights for clients, he also helps to enforce them, and has litigated IP cases in district and appellate courts throughout the country. Corey also practices extensively in international intellectual property, and has acted as lead counsel in obtaining intellectual property rights for clients in dozens of worldwide jurisdictions such as China, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Korea. Additionally, he has experience guiding intellectual property litigation in many of those countries, with a particular emphasis on enforcement against counterfeits in China. Corey earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Arizona State University in 2008, also graduating from ASU’s Barrett Honors College. In 2011 he earned his Juris Doctorate degree from UCLA, with a specialization in the Entertainment and Media Law program (since renamed the Entertainment, Media, and Intellectual Property Law program). In 2017, he earned his Master of Science in Engineering in Electronic Materials, also from UCLA. Corey’s mix of legal and technical backgrounds allows him to work with clients on complicated technologies. In 2017, Corey was recognized by the Pacific Coast Business Times in its annual “40 Under 40” awards. Beginning in 2018 and every year since, he has been recognized as a Super Lawyer’s Rising Star for Southern California. He is a contributing author to California’s Continuing Education of the Bar program, and has been quoted as an expert in numerous publications regarding various intellectual property issues. He also serves as an expert witness on intellectual property matters. Prior to joining the firm, Corey was a shareholder at Koppel Patrick Heybl & Philpott. He also previously worked for the UCLA Office of Intellectual Property, where he worked on various patent prosecution and licensing projects.
