About Corey Weller

I am a Registered Nurse with 12 years of experience. Within that time, I have worked within Post Anaesthetic Care Units, both public and private, Acute Pain Services’ across several facilities as both Clinical Nurse and Clinical Nurse Consultant, as well as spending some time in rural and remote emergency. I hold a permanent substantive Clinical Nurse position with Winton Multipurpose Health Service in the Central West. Throughout my time working across varied critical care settings and different health services I feel I have developed a keen ability for autonomous patient assessment and early detection of the deteriorating patient. The rural and remote Emergency Department has allowed me to broaden my scope of practice from simple outpatient wound management to multi-trauma admissions and resuscitations. During my years in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, Acute Pain Service, and my time in Emergency, I have worked actively within a multi-disciplinary team including my fellow nurses, anaesthetists, surgeons and other doctors, radiologist, allied health professionals, hospital managers/coordinators, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Retrieval Services and Executive teams. This has enabled me to develop excellent communication skills allowing me to proactively advocate for my patients, staff and facility to ensure best outcomes for all. It has also given me the ability to work confidently and efficiently in a team setting, speaking up for patient safety and advocating for patients for best treatment options. I also have a strong ability to independently trouble shoot clinical issues and actively seek out resources, references and policies & procedures to support my decision making. While working as a Clinical Nurse, and during my time as a Nurse Manager, I have had the opportunity to develop strong leadership skills. I have had the opportunity to work closely with the Central West Executive Leadership Team to meet both the staffing and operational requirements of all six facilities while working within budget constraints and district frameworks. During my time as DON I have also been involved in the successful short notice accreditation process as well as hosting dignitary visits to our facility. Furthermore, I have implemented several quality improvements around streamlining payroll systems and action plans for the Work for Queensland survey results with the frontline staff being the focus for culture and wellbeing improvement. I also have experience in coordination and staffing of mass gathering events.
