About Corina Murafa

I am a university lecturer, activist and independent consultant in climate, energy and sustainability with 12+ years of progressive experience in large non-profits, international organisations and the private sector. I like driving strategic interventions towards just and sustainable social transformations, and have done so with organisations like the World Bank, the European Commission, Frankfurt School of Management, Ashoka, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Prime Minister’s Office, and various other national governments, NGOs and think tanks. I covered geographies such as Romania, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Portugal, etc. I focus mostly on the just energy transition, energy poverty, citizen participation in the energy sector and ESG transformations in corporations. I give a voice to civil society organisations working in these sectors in Brussels and Bucharest, as a member of the the European Economic and Social Committee and of the Economic and Social Council of Romania. I am a member of the Romanian Energy Poverty Observatory and an Associate Fellow with the Center for Democracy Studies (Babes Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca). I teach sustainability in energy companies and social entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Business Administration at Bucharest University of Economic Studies, where I also participate in applied research projects in fields such as biomass and heat pumps. I offer evidence-based policy advice to the organisations I work with, because I have a solid academic background through studies and long-term fellowships in energy and climate economics and policy at UC Berkeley, Hertie School of Governance (Master in Public Policy), New York University, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (PhD in International Economic Relations, with a thesis on financial instruments for decarbonizing the energy sector) and Bucharest University (BA in Political Science). My hands-on progressive leadership experience in the non-profit and public sector has been complemented by transformational fellowships with the Aspen Institute, German Marshall Fund, Beahrs Environmental Leadership Programme and Open Society Institute. I am a frequent speaker in media and public conferences and an author of academic publications and policy reports. I consult for a limited number of private sector clients in high-impact educational and strategic projects in sustainability. Publications list:
