I have worked in the Asset Management and Investment Funds industry since 1995 when I joined the asset servicing arm of Barings Bank. Barings had been acquired by ING following the Nick Leeson episode just a few months earlier. An unforgettable time to be starting out in the industry. Five years in-house gave me a great insight into the inner workings of an asset manager. Moving into practice in I spent 17 years in the Asset Management and Investment Funds unit of a large Irish law firm where the unit grew as the industry in Ireland grew. I joined Arthur Cox, Ireland’s largest law firm, in 2018 where I am a senior partner in the firm’s Asset Management and Investment Funds group advising asset managers from all over the world who have chosen Ireland as a domicile from which to establish their investment funds. We have the largest and most experienced funds team in the Irish market advising managers pursuing a wide variety of investment strategies with expertise in all product sets including ETFs, money market funds, credit/loan funds, hedge funds, private equity and real estate funds. I am as passionate about the industry and Ireland’s role as a key fund domicile as I was all those years ago when the industry in Ireland was only in its infancy. It is a real privilege to work in a sector which has created so many opportunities for me and others and I look forward to many more exciting years as the importance of the industry in supporting savers and investors all over the world becomes ever more acute.
