About Cornelia Lauf

Art historian and curator, with four decades curating in the public and private sector. Speciality in commissioned projects involving artists and artisanal realities. For these projects, I manage the production, and exhibition of many unique, often functional, works of art and design. I’m an expert in editorial practices, with topics including the nature of the artist’s transaction, or the production of unique publications with artists. Throughout my career, II’ve conceived and curated — often in teams — exhibitions including Artist/Author, Contemporary Artist’s Books,(American Federation of Arts, New York), Konstantin Gricic (Casa di Goethe, Rome; Harvard University, Cambridge; Klassik Stiftung, Weimar) Wall to Wall: Carpets by Artists,(Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland); Indeed: Certificates of Authenticity (with Susan Hapgood). I recently created a virtual exhibition with Dr. Stephen Bury, Chief Librarian, Frick Museum. I was formerly the Editor-in-Chief at Imschoot, Uitgevers, in Belgium; co-founded Three Star Books, Paris (2005-2015), and have produced many publications with contemporary artists. I’m on the editorial board of Sztuka I Dokumentacja (Gdansk), and the guest editor of volume 26, dedicated to a project on art, ecology, and archaeology. I recently wrote a catalogue essay on artist’s textiles for La Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Rome. In 2023, I’m publishing a monograph on Argentine ecological artist, Alexandra Kehayoglou (Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König). In addition, I’ve written for Lampoon (Milan) and the Financial Times, among many others, including a recent interview with Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Stefano Boeri on environmental practice. An international professor and lecturer, I have taught at LUISS; IUAV, Venice, and am currently Visiting Professor in the MA Graduate Art History program at John Cabot University, Rome. I lecture widely, including at Smithsonian Associates, Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Getty Center for the Arts and Humanities, Los Angeles; Tate, London; Dia Center for the Arts; and many others. As the Artistic Director of family farm Agricola Due Leoni, with its prize-winning Italian olive oil, I have created collaborations with contemporary artists. Honorary activities include Founding Member of Fondo Ambiente Italiano FAI Gruppo della Sabina; Senior Editor, Center for Book Arts, New York City; Global Fine Art Awards; Emily Harvey Foundation.
