About Cory Marin

The ‘why’ stage of a toddler. Most outgrow it, at the rejoice of their parents. Me, I never really outgrew it. Now not in the sense where I can see how many times I ask why in a minute. The why, however, has fueled my desire to learn and adapt. The why led to the how, the how led to the what. No, this isn’t the game of Clue.That desire to know and understand is what drove me to pursue my degree in Criminal Justice. From that toddler, asking nonstop questions, I ran around the house playing cops and robbers. From a young age I realized the good guy that helps people is the route to go. I saw myself as a prestigious detective, sniffing out all the clues and solving the biggest mysterious.Fast forward some years later and I find myself in a completely different role. However the root of wanting to know why and helping people is having an impact as a supervisor at Freeman. Instead of investigating crimes, I’m analyzing data and processes to help improve efficiencies and save money. I’ve helped develop and establish new processes that have led to a reduction in hours by nearly 25%. That inquisitive approach has allowed for me to play detective within my role. I may not be solving a crime but I am helping find ways to better serve our customers, improve our efficiencies, and save money in the process.Dawning the common mantra of police departments everywhere, to serve and protect, has allowed me to make my team and department a top priority. While that comparison may seem overzealous, and it is, to truly build your team up you must embody a servant leader mentality. I take great joy in being there for my team, to help them grow and develop, and to reach their goals. The stronger the individual, the stronger the team, the stronger company, and so on and so forth.While this is a far stretch from the days of me running around the backyard playing cops and robbers. Or dealing a constant blitz of ‘whys’ to my parents, the desire to understand and help have played an important role in my career. I may not be solving the latest headline on the nightly news but I’m playing detective daily, examining data and processes to help solve problems and improve efficiencies. And while I don’t have a community to serve I get to help my team work towards their own professional goals.
