As with many network technicians I wear many hats. Project manager, Site Inspector, IT Consultant, and of course Network Technician, are all skills I have learned on the job. As a "project manager" through some of the larger projects I have been a part of. Some larger projects required me to coordinate with the electrical contractors, vendors, and buildings to arrange various aspects of work, while still maintaining the daily functionality of the buildings in question. I was relied upon heavily to keep our costs in line and to verify that all of the work was competed correctly in a timely mannor and most importantly, on or under budget. As a "Site Inspector" I would be relied on to inspect the buildings and areas of interest to verify if our initial design and conceptual ideas would indeed work in the real world. These inspections continue throughout the job until completion to make sure corners are not cut, and the job is finished to the clients expectations. As a "Consultant" I would be relied on to help the clients out with their technology needs. In most cases, I would design the local network from the ground up. This begins with the physical LAN room designs, followed by the logical LAN room designs and the addition of a Wireless infrastructure. Last but not least, as a network technician, I configure and install the physical network hardware, from the Racks and patch cables to the switches and router.
