About Craig Simpson

Craig Simpson has over 25 years experience in the CG and traditional animation film industry. Craig most recently worked as a Rough, Final and Stereo layout artist using Maya, with special skills in cinematography, creative camera moves and composition. Other skills include designing, building and engineering all types of cameras from full motion control rigs to the latest Sony Imageworks virtual camera system that he was asked to design and implement upgrades. This pioneering technology tracks the movements of a real camera and applies this motion in real-time to a virtual camera in a CG set with CG animated characters. His responsibilities included assembling a new camera rig and building new camera control input devices. He worked closely with the software development group at Sony to upgrade the existing system based upon his extensive knowledge of camera designs and his experience as a camera operator. Once the upgrades were implemented he was tasked with maintaining and operating the system on various live-action and feature-animation projects. Duties associated with Rough and Final Layout- Scouting camera locations - Create camera moves and simple character animation - Set dressing - Adjust and rework cameras after animation
