Background
About Criss Vo
As a passionate English instructor with a strong commitment to higher education, I have built a solid track record of success in teaching, qualitative research, communication, and writing. I specialize in teaching composition, rhetoric, and literature, helping students develop critical thinking skills and craft well-supported arguments through credible research and thoughtful analysis. I hold a Master of Arts in English from California State University, Fullerton. My thesis, titled "Silence of the Women: Sensationalizing the Whitechapel Murders," examines the portrayal of Jack the Ripper in the London press during the infamous Whitechapel murders. I analyze how Victorian journalists not only sensationalized the killings but also shaped the narrative around them, focusing on the victimization of the women and the framing of their deaths as a spectacle. Through archival research on newspaper articles, editorials, and other media coverage from the period, my work explores how the press contributed to the public’s perception of the murders, often overshadowing the voices and stories of the women involved. This thesis delves into the intersection of media, gender, and crime, and how the representation of marginalized groups, particularly women, was manipulated for public consumption and moral panic. I currently teach English at Golden West College, where I was honored with the Part-Time Professor of the Year award in 2023. I have experience in teaching dual enrollment courses at Los Amigos High School and Fountain Valley High School, where I teach literature courses to seniors. In addition, I am pursuing my Doctor of Education at Northeastern University in Boston, focusing on AI literacy and its role in enhancing college students' research and writing skills. My dissertation explores the importance of integrating AI literacy into the curriculum, and I’m excited to deepen my expertise in educational leadership and innovation. I look forward to relocating to New England upon completing my doctoral studies in 2026.
