About Cristina Compton

I received my doctorate in education from Teachers College, Columbia University with a concentration in the teaching of English. I began my career in education as a NYC Teaching Fellow, teaching in a Title 1 school, while completing my Masters in Childhood Education. I currently work as the Director of Program Development at the Center for the Professional Education of Teachers (CPET). In this role, I design promotional campaigns aimed at recruiting, sustaining and growing CPET's partnerships, coordinate and manage large and small scale projects, as well as hire and train new coaches. I perform extensive, needs based assessments of schools to determine areas of strength and areas for growth in efforts of developing highly customized and targeted professional development plans to help schools achieve their goals. My areas of expertise include curriculum design and unit planning, aligning instruction to the Danielson framework and the Common Core State Standards, as well as developing literacy strategies that bolster student learning and achievement. I also work closely with teachers and students to develop literacy projects that culminate in professionally designed, print-based publications. As a former New York City public school teacher, I am able to bring a valuable perspective to my coaching work and my experiences inspire my commitment to empowering teachers and leaders and advancing student achievement.
