About Crystal Smith

Welcome! I am a passionate social worker dedicated to healing the community through innovative creative expressive therapies. After years as a professional hoop dancer, I have developed a new therapeutic approach called Flow Therapy that utilizes the positive psychology concept of the Flow State(the state of optimal performance achieved as a result of complete immersion in an activity) and the flow arts (hula-hooping, poi, staff, contact juggling and dance). This approach provides a creative emotional outlet that enables processing of traumatic events as well as provides the coping skills for clients to alter negative thought patterns, overcome addiction, increase self-confidence, and improve their emotional state. I have successfully implemented this approach with a variety of clients ranging from those on the autism spectrum to those struggling with gender identity issues, ADHD, depression, anxiety and more. I am also trained in utilizing yoga for trauma and self-regulation in addition to being highly skilled in traditional therapeutic techniques such as cognitive behavioral and solutions focused approaches. Furthermore, I am experienced with working with adolescents and diverse populations. Additionally, I am extremely progress-orientated and am continually focused on improving myself both as a clinician and an individual.
