About Curtis Newbold

College professor, corporate consultant, and public speaker interested in creative approaches to complex problems in business, in education, and in life. I'm co-director of the innovative, hybrid online Master of Strategic Communication (MSC) program at Westminster College; I develop and present live online trainings in leadership communication and public speaking for O'Reilly Media; I build and lead in-person workshops and presentations in leadership and communication for companies like Discover Financial Services, Mountain America Credit Union, and the International Association of Business Communicators. I own and operate a popular communication and design website-TheVisualCommunicationGuy.com-where I nerd out by building infographics on things like punctuation, research methods, and image copyright laws. I'm also currently a course audit consultant for the College Board and a freelance designer. I've taught over 30 unique college courses at Westminster College (SLC), Clemson University (South Carolina), Utah State University, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (Guangzhou, China). My teaching portfolio covers many areas of communication, including integrated marketing communications; visual communication and brand strategy; technical, scientific, and business writing; emergent media; web design; information design; rhetorical theory; professional editing; proposal writing; infographic design; and wayfinding. I've led student film, photography, marketing, and workshop projects around the globe, collaborating with non-profit organizations and small businesses like Peruvian Hearts in Cusco, Peru; the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation in Cape Town, South Africa; Sustainable Cambodia, in Pursat, Cambodia; and the Institute for Leadership and Communication Studies in Rabat, Morocco. I've also led students to Hungary, Poland, and and Czech Republic to visit with the marketing personnel at organic food research and outdoor apparel firms.
