About Cynthia Charboneau

I started my teaching career in Wewoka, OK at Justice Public School in 1991 and was immersed in a community steeped in Native culture. I am proud to maintain contact with many of my students and consider them family. In 1997, I became part of Norman's Whittier Middle School where my role changed as the school and district grew. I served as a multi-level math teacher, multi-level science teacher, designed and taught exploratory classes, held site and district leadership positions, led and served on multiple committees, coached academic teams, performed as Instructional Coach and ended my 30-year teaching career as Whittier's Gifted and Talented Resource Coordinator. Although I am retired from education, I always lead with a servant's heart and have found a new outlet that allows me to aid tribal members across our state at Oklahoma Indian Legal Services. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education (1991), a Master of Arts in Community and Educational Renewal (2005) and a Master of Legal Studies in Indigenous Peoples Law from the University of Oklahoma (2018). I am an Alumnae of Matriarch, graduate of Leadership Native Oklahoma 2019, and a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. I am a current member of the Oklahoma Choctaw Tribal Alliance, Inc.
