About Daan Spijer

I have a full and varied (and interesting) working history. While studying Law I worked part-time as a cinema projectionist; half-way through my Law Articles, I was running a branch office for my principal; I was involved in the setting up of the Fitzroy Legal Service (first free community legal service in Australia) and was its first Administrator (1973-4); I worked in London as a residential Social Worker and studied there in Psychotherapy and various body therapies (1977-9); I practised as a Psychotherapist through the 1980s; I joined the Australasian College of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine in July 1991 and became CEO in 1996, finally leaving in September 2007. I now work as a mediator in legal disputes while maintaining a law practice. I write and also work as an editor, proof-reader and ghost-writer; I indulge in photography. In 2013 I trained as and was accredited as a mediator; with Bond University in 2019 I completed a Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution and was accredited by the Australian Attorney-General's Department; I am currently studying Elder Mediation. Specialties: Mediation, family dispute resolution, legal practice; copy-writing for commercial and other campaigns (with my wife); reshaping others' words to help them communicate effectively; advising business leaders on strategies.
