About Daisuke Yabe

Dr. Daisuke Yabe has been investigating pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes in Asian population. His clinical research interests include secretion and action of incretins GLP-1 and GIP, as well as clinical safety and efficacy of incretin-based therapies in management of type 2 diabetes. He also studies molecular basis underlying aging of pancreatic beta cells; and beta cell heterogeneity. Dr. Yabe obtained MD degree from Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine (Japan), and PhD degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (USA). Dr. Yabe serves as Professor and Chairman for Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gifu University Graduate School of Medicine (Japan), Deputy Director General for Kansai Electric Power Medical Research Institute (Japan), Visiting Associate Professor for Division of Molecular and Metabolic Medicine, Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine (Japan), and Visiting Scholar for Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine (Japan). While Dr. Yabe is actively involved in clinical and basic research related to diabetes, he is also dedicated for diabetes care and education as a diabetes specialist. He has served as a member of the IDF Science Taskforce, and he is an active member of the International Affairs Committee, the Science Committee and the Diabetes Education Committee, The Japan Association for Diabetes Education and Care; and the International Affairs Committee and the Public Relations Committee, The Japan Diabetes Society.
