Background

About Damian Grenfell

Based at RMIT University in Melbourne, Victoria my work combines teaching, research, supervision and leadership roles. In teaching, I am committed to engaged learning and teaching that provides high quality experiences for students inside and beyond the formal class room. Preparing students for both work and life beyond their degrees involves a development of both their intellectual and ethical capacities that are enhanced through applying conceptual knowledge to real-world scenarios in formal learning circumstances, study tours, internships and industry engagement. As in teaching, my research is located within the field of peace and conflict studies and engages with gender, security and development studies. Having worked in community level research for over two decades (particularly in Timor-Leste), I have a strong commitment to participatory research, working with communities, and utilising research to promote both immediate and longer-term social change. My leadership roles have included both teaching and research related positions where I have sought to advance interdisciplinary connections within universities and engagement beyond the higher education domain.
