As the Founder, once CEO and now Business Development Manager I am results-driven. Our business, Square Penny, is an organisation of 24+ professional bookkeepers. 15 years ago, I had the idea of wanting to provide professional mothers with an opportunity to re-enter the workforce without needing to comprise their duties as a mother. It was shortly after that I quickly transformed this concept into a successful bookkeeping and financial management company. A large issue that many mothers face when returning to the workforce is their need to choose between being their child’s primary carer or a working professional. It’s very difficult for them to have it both ways. At Square Penny, we have developed a system where mothers can either work remotely or in an office near their home. We are essentially providing them with a means of being their own professional person at work before returning home to be a mum again. This process of breaking the cultural restraints of being a stay-at-home mother is about building a workforce that is disposed to accommodate for mothers. My extensive exposure to small, large, private and publicly listed companies has benefited me largely in identifying and understanding the needs of various types of business. I have proficiencies in finance and business development as well as sales and negotiations which have all assisted in paving the way to create, run and operate Square Penny. Some of the ways I have successfully improved the profits of particular businesses is by: • Identifying and removing inefficient practices and uncovering errors in financial statements • Effectively negotiating win-win deals with customers and suppliers • Articulating financial concepts to employees, peers and management • Helping to turn under-performing employees into valued members of the business • Searching for business-related challenges and delivering valuable outcomes.
