About Dan Arbell

Foreign policy and Middle East expert with 25+ years of senior diplomatic experience and over a decade in academic teaching. Currently Scholar-in-Residence at American University, teaching courses on Israeli politics, national security and Arab-Israeli relations. Previously served 26 years in Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington D.C and Tokyo. Key roles included coordinating the U.S-Israel strategic dialogue, involvement in the peace process and normalization between Israel and Arab states. In a previous role as Ambassador’s Chief of Staff at the Israeli embassy in Washington, I was closely involved in the Oslo Accords, Israel-Jordan peace and direct negotiations with Syria. In Washington’s policy community, I held fellowships at the Brookings Institution, The International Institute for Strategic Studies and the Center for American Progress. My work bridges high-level diplomacy with academic and policy analysis, offering insight into U.S Middle East strategy, regional security cooperation and energy dynamics. I maintain strong ties with the U.S foreign policy establishment and continue to contribute through teaching, writing and advising.
