About Dan Carlson

I have worked in digital communications since 1986, first as a technical writer and illustrator, and since 1995 as an information architect, interaction designer, and currently as a UX researcher. My user research experience includes having created, moderated and analyzed over 600 usability tests as well as having conducted countless interviews, prototype tests, competitive audits, surveys, ethnographic research and metrics analyses. Specialties: • User research (usability & concept testing, interviews, heuristic evaluation, surveys, etc.) • Web and app analytics experience using Google Analytics and more • Information architecture & microcopy I've done research and design for multiple platforms including mobile, web, enterprise and desktop. I have worked in many verticals including biotechnology, healthcare, pharma, e-commerce, finance, education, energy, hospitality, and digital photo management. I have academic majors in two natural sciences and have 25+ years' HCI experience. As a result, I know how and why to conduct research but more importantly, how to translate findings into actionable UX design recommendations.
