About Dan Halvorson

As a Managing Director, I bring a unique combination of entrepreneurship and corporate leadership to my role as an Investment Banker at CFA. Known as a proven strategist, collaborator, and problem solver, I am dedicated to facilitating the best outcome for my clients.I am applying my operational experience along with my success in acquiring, running, growing and selling my own companies, to my client work as a mergers and acquisitions advisor. I understand first-hand what company owners are going through as they contemplate what might be a once in a lifetime transaction. As a manufacturing / distribution company owner, I acquired and grew successful operations providing proprietary tools and accessories to golf courses and sports turf facilities. Over the next 13 years, I acquired two additional complementary companies and integrated them into the operations. In addition, I developed and launched 17 new products and significantly expanded the product lines for the distribution side of the business. The company was successfully sold to a larger strategic buyer in late 2012.I began my career at Cargill, and for 19 years progressed through a variety of trading/management positions. I served as Cargill’s Export Feed Grains Manager, leading a matrixed international team trading over $1 billion annually. I directed feed grain exports from U.S. ports to global destinations, developing expertise in risk management, international logistics, as well as honing very sharp negotiating skills.Passionate about innovation in food and agriculture, I serve as a member of the Business Advisory Group for the University of Minnesota Office for Technology Commercialization - Venture Center, a business incubator focused on creating startup companies based on technology developed at the University.
