About Dan Hendry

I’m a community builder, changemaker, and advocate for sustainable, inclusive systems, especially when it comes to how we move, learn, and live together. For the past 15 years, I’ve worked across public education, municipal government, and the nonprofit sector to co-create innovative solutions that empower youth, promote sustainability, and foster community resilience. I’m probably best known as “the bus guy” behind Kingston's High School Transit Pass Program, a now internationally recognized model that’s inspired over 20 communities across Canada to reimagine youth mobility. What started as a local pilot has grown into the Get on the Bus movement, a national call for investment in youth transit opportunities. Beyond transit, I’ve had the privilege of leading and advising on multi-partner projects in climate planning, sustainability strategy, and innovation capacity building, whether that’s supporting the Limestone District School Board, guiding climate action planning in Loyalist Township, or co-developing the Innovation Hub at St. Lawrence College and leading Enactus SLC to empower students as changemakers. My work often blurs the lines between professional and personal, as I believe in being present where I live. That’s meant mentoring young leaders, guest lecturing at Queen’s University, volunteering with YourTV, or offering pro bono support to causes that matter. At heart, I believe that sustainable systems require shared leadership and that real change happens when we bring diverse partners to the table and create space for ideas to grow.
