About Dan Kessler

A Short History Starting as a classically trained professional guitarist. I studied with Manual Lopez Ramos, Pam Kimber, Matthew Mishakoff and later played in a variety of bands in 25 states. After graduating from GIT I became an instructor with a specialty in Synth guitar. At GIT I developed educational software as well as SQL based student records and scheduling systems. Pat Hicks [founder] said, “Dan put the ‘T’ in GIT”. Later elevated to VP R&D.[SQL,C,ASM] I left to start ‘Play Music Inc.’. a multimedia software company which developed some of the earliest CD-ROMs with digital video. We won multiple awards for titles that were initially distributed by HLC, and later OEM’ed to Voyetra.[Objective-C,C++] Next I worked for GVOX as Principal Software Engineer working on Encore music notation and was instrumental in developing MusicTime online music notation.[Javascript] https://patents.google.com/patent/US20010036620A1 Freelance work included mobile applications developed for MD Anderson and an interactive DVD for Fender which utilized a MIDI driven 3D plug to render guitar performances synchronized with notation.[C#] I started at NAMM in 2005 as Director of Technology. At NAMM, as a hand-on leader, my teams have evolved the company’s technology using cloud services, developed an SSO system, websites, registration systems and orchestrated a large virtual event (Believe in Music 2021).
