Background
About Dan L.
An international development professional with experience at both the community and country level, Dan takes a systems approach to building resilient economies, improving rural livelihoods, and managing natural resources. He specializes in facilitating inclusive long-term change in complex systems, building teams driven by learning, designing and administering adaptive contract mechanisms, and co-creating and testing innovations, especially in fragile and emerging markets like Haiti, Mozambique, and the eastern Congo. He has also worked in Eastern Europe and West Africa delivering on the contractual, financial, and technical requirements of USAID-funded projects in areas ranging from preparing for pandemic threats to catalysing innovation and entrepreneurship. In his most recent job overseas, Dan served on the leadership team of USAID's Strengthening Livelihoods and Resilience Activity in the eastern DRC, where he supported a team of Congolese professionals learning to do development differently and help Ituri province emerge from its decades-long cycle of crises and humanitarian aid and transform into a more competitive, inclusive, and resilient socio-economic system. Prior to Ituri, he lived in Mozambique and oversaw the partnership facility of a cutting-edge USAID market systems development project. Before moving to Mozambique, Dan worked as a project manager at DAI with a portfolio ranging from $25M to $150M in total value. He supported his projects with technical, management, and compliance expertise throughout their life cycles and also contributed to DAI proposal efforts. He started his international development career managing a community agro-forestry project in Haiti's Artibonite Valley that is still active today. Dan currently works in DAI's resilience and stability practice, where his role as an in-house expert involves consulting with DAI projects worldwide and researching and writing proposals for the organization. He also develops training and knowledge-management products, especially in the areas of market systems development and resilience, consults with DAI's clients in the U.S. and Europe, and contributes to DAI's new business strategies. He is also a passable musician, photographer, runner, cyclist, and skier. All LinkedIn posts represent his personal views, not those of his employer.
