About Dan Mascaro

Dan Mascaro serves as Director of Investigations and Audits of True Pedigree, that offers brand protection and anti-counterfeiting solutions to help companies protect their brand and bottom line. Mr. Mascaro has over 40 years of experience in both public law enforcement and corporate investigations. Mr. Mascaro manages True Pedigree’s audit team that has delivered hundreds of channel compliance audits for high tech companies. He consults with clients on the development and enhancement of their brand protection programs and on the use of technology to identify, quantify and mitigate brand risk. He also assists clients with complex brand investigations and the practical application of investigative findings to enhance business controls.Prior to this, he spent 28 years planning and managing international investigations of major frauds in high technology companies including the Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq Computer and Hewlett Packard. He served as the Global Investigations Manager for HP’s Brand Security Group and managed multiple cases of discount and warranty fraud referred to federal law enforcement for prosecution in the US and other countries. While at HP, Mr. Mascaro developed and delivered specialized training for investigators on brand related issues and conducting ethical investigations. He led numerous investigations involving employee and partner misconduct, including theft, corruption, kickbacks and FCPA issues. While at Compaq, he served on the team which originally researched and developed the Services and Warranty Fraud program currently in use by HP and later served as the Global Services and Warranty Fraud Investigations Manager. Prior to working in high technology, Mr. Mascaro served as Deputy Superintendent, Division of Administration for the Illinois State Police.Mr. Mascaro is also employed by Sideman & Bancroft as their Global Investigations Manager. He consults with Sideman & Bancroft clients on investigative strategies for complex international brand investigations, case preparation for criminal referrals and channel partner compliance. He specializes in the areas of sales and discount fraud (gray marketing), warranty and services fraud, counterfeiting, software license piracy and other white-collar crimes. Mr. Mascaro has a BS in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University and an MS in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. He has been a Certified Fraud Examiner since 1996 and has taught criminal investigation and white-collar crime courses as adjunct faculty of Hesser College in New Hampshire.
