About Dan Mazur

With over 15 years of experience in data science, machine learning, and software development, I am passionate about making products that use the latest research advances to enhance people's lives and solve real-world problems. As a machine learning engineer at HeardThat, I applied deep learning to achieve state-of-the-art speech enhancement performance, helping people with hearing difficulties to communicate better in noisy environments. I developed software for data management, training, evaluating, and exporting machine learning models, and collaborated on product, marketing, user experience, and quality assurance.I was a senior data scientist and a project leader at Shopify, where I led a project to consolidate and recommend data science insights throughout the Shopify Fulfillment Network product. I also mapped and refactored data platforms to achieve best practices and integration after company mergers. At Grow, I was the first data scientist hired and grew the discipline within the company. I developed the company's data science strategy and developed ML product capabilities from conception to deployment. ATB cited "exceptional, AI-powered customer experiences" as a reason for acquiring Grow.My background in theoretical astrophysics and scientific computing has given me a strong foundation in mathematical modeling, scientific software development, and research methods. I have published several papers in peer-reviewed journals, and received multiple academic awards and scholarships. I am also an award-winning educator, with experience mentoring researchers, leading teams, and building communities.ML-enabled products I've developed are in the news- Improving conversations in noisy environments - https://heardthat.ai/in-the-news- Self-driving personal finances - https://betakit.com/vancouver-based-grow-technologies-acquired-by-albertas-atb-financial/- Predictive Maintenance for Airlines -
