About Dan Mueller

Water Resources Engineer, Hydrologist, and Water Policy Expert Dan Mueller is a registered professional engineer with over 40 years of experience in the environmental field encompassing water resource assessment, management, and policy. This includes surface water and groundwater hydrology, wastewater beneficial reuse, use of alternative water sources, and water conservation. With degrees in aquatic biology (B.S.) and civil engineering (B.S. and M.S.) his experience includes projects driven by a wide range of regulatory programs and water resource management issues. In his current role Dan provides technical and project leadership in developing and implementing sound water resource management policy based on sound engineering and science. This includes groundwater management projects addressing sustainability and resilience. Critical issues include groundwater over drafting (jeopardizing long-term sustainability of this resource), groundwater/surface water interactions with focus on protecting potential spring flow and river flow, surface water availability, and ecosystem viability dependent on these resources. Dan has significant experience in the oil and gas sector involving issues related to water use, recycling, and reuse. He is working with industry partners and research institutions to further understanding of the chemical characterization of oil and gas wastewater (comprised of flowback and produced water) and treatment technologies required for possible recycling, reuse, or discharge of these waters. He also has worked on underground gas storage projects in China that drew on collaborative efforts with industry and environmental ministries.
