About Dan Schlangen

My name is Dan Schlangen and I help people and teams solve problems so they can celebrate success. My 22 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard has provided me with a diverse background as a leader, teacher, and performance analyst. As just one of twelve highest ranked members in my field, I have honed my skills in mentoring, change management, advising senior leaders, data-driven decision making, organizational improvement, and strategic planning. I’m a doer. There is no task too large or small, as long as it needs to get done. My 18 years of extensive experience as a manager at some of the Coast Guard’s busiest and most dynamic emergency operations centers enables me to rapidly analyze developing situations, partner with my team to determine the best solution, and direct appropriate action. I pride myself on my quality of work, my skills to develop, train, and manage cross-functional teams, and my ability to quickly establish trust and confidence in my recommendations. Looking back over my career, I am proud to have led a team who innovated a unique solution to closing performance gaps in our organizations 47 Command Centers, by developing a suite of training products, facilitator guides, a standardized schedule, and policy to sustain the initiative. Additionally, I am proud of the work that I undertook to scope my teams customer interaction and satisfaction, resulting in a complete top to bottom overhaul of processes and methodology used in our assessments, a ~50% spending reduction, and significantly improved working relationships with customers across the organization. My goals for the future are to join a company as a key contributor, in a role that will allow me to continue to exercise my leadership and management skills, to effect positive change in order to improve the bottom line, and to help your company grow.
