About Dana Pohlmann

I am passionate about helping others. My education and career choices have given many opportunities to experience and learn about helping careers. I began as a nurse's assistant caring for the elderly, and developed a compassionate nature that I have carried through my life. Today, I continue to work part-time as a liscensed caregiver in a nursing center simply because I enjoy the work. I also work in addiction and recovery, and often with the homeless community and criminal justice system. My favorite part of work is attending to those who need the most. My work allows me a wide world-view. Daily, I enjoy the chance to make a real, practical difference in the lives of others. I may intervene in crises. I may resolve conflicts between clients, or mediate between clients and managers. I may role-play an employment interview. I may be the first contact for someone in crisis. I may be asked to meet with probation officers, help someone find supportive housing, or locate resources for clients with urgent needs. Recently, I have been researching and preparing to work on a grant proposal. Often, I am the hug or listening ear that is needed. I never know what the day will bring, but I love that I am able to experience a broad range of circumstances, and that I am able to meet so many individuals at a time when I may be of some help to them. I am continuing my education with the same broad approach by taking classes that will complement my passion for human service. Though focusing on health care, I also take classes for grant-writing, social work, business administration, health information systems, and end-of-life care. I envision myself creating a non-profit that will provide compassion and care for those who most need it: single parents in recovery, homeless individuals, and indigent persons in need of health or hospice care. I know that my education and life experience will be of great benefit to my future plans and I can't wait to see how they evolve.
