I love a great puzzle! Oh, don't get me wrong; I love the solution too, but there's just something so satisfying about the process involved in working through the puzzle to get to the solution. That's been my outlook on the last 30 years of my career. I've made it my mission to look for the best in people and to encourage them to find the best in themselves. I'm passionate about forming relationships with people, discovering their likes and dislikes, evaluating their strengths and vulnerabilities, and helping to create access to their hopes and dreams. I actively listen to their joys and concerns and collaborate with them to set meaningful and attainable goals. You see, for the past 30 years, I've been a learning specialist. Some people refer to my title as a teacher, but I think that learning specialist correctly conveys that there is a lot of "specialty" and "specialization" that goes into my job. I mentioned a puzzle, right? Stay with me. The greatest puzzle has been figuring out how to do my job in the midst of a pandemic. In a split second, it redefined everything I knew about teaching, technology, and relationships. I worked with others to learn new skills and new technology quickly; I sought out resources of my own. Sometimes the answers were pretty straightforward. Many times it was necessary to work backward from the problem. Nevertheless, I found ways to make technology work for me and to reach out through the unknown and the uncertainty to maintain and grow those relationships and connections with my students.
