Background
About Daniel A. Araya
Economist & Data Scientist with 9+ years of experience using data-driven approaches to solve complex problems in public health, behavioural science, and fiscal policy across Latin America and Europe. Currently completing a PhD in Health Economics at Trinity College Dublin, where I co-developed Ireland’s first national neuro-rehabilitation data system in collaboration with the HSE. My research applies econometrics, causal inference and machine learning to evaluate the impact of behaviours on health outcomes, and choice modelling to understand individual preferences and behaviour for informed health-related decision-making. Previously, I worked as a Data Scientist at the Chilean Ministry of Finance (DIPRES), leading programme evaluations and helping implement Chile’s first zero-based budgeting initiative. I have also led and contributed to research funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and FONDECYT, and published in peer-reviewed journals such as Tobacco Control, Value in Health Regional Issues, International Journal of Drug Policy, and PLOS One. My work bridges academic rigour and real-world impact, with expertise in: • Causal inference (RDD, DiD, Matching, Randomisation, Synthetic control) • Machine learning (DR ML, glmnet, Neural Networks) • Choice Modelling (Discrete Choice Surveys, MNL, Mixed Logit, Latent Class, Nested Logit) • Health economics, public finance & programme evaluation • Tools: R, Stata, Excel, survey design I’m open to opportunities in: • Data science & applied research (public or private sector) • Policy & health consulting • Pharma/healthcare analytics • Academic and interdisciplinary research roles Let’s connect if you’re looking for someone who combines analytical depth, interdisciplinary knowledge, and a passion for using data to improve lives.
