Science teacher at a non-selective private school with a catholic ethos. Passionate about helping young individuals realise their potential. Actively involved in many aspects of school life, from afterschool football training and managing a team at the weekends to running after school clubs and lunchtime science clinics. Also a first port of call for A-level students to get one to one help on challenging topics. Teacher of all three Sciences to key stage 3, and both Biology and Chemistry to key stage 5. Head of Key Stage 3 and responsible for designing a new curriculum that prepares students for GCSE content, bridging the gap in difficulty and raises confidence within those initial years. 2024 Chemistry GCSE results 8-9 = 100% 2023 Biology GCSE results - 7-9 = 73%, 6-9 = 100% I possess a range scientific knowledge, having completed a biochemistry degree and a chemistry focused PhD. At undergraduate level the modules were based on neuroscience, genetics and protein/enzyme chemistry, with practical experience including enzyme assays and PCR/cloning. My PhD involved the synthesis, characterisation and testing of a range of catalysts, both homogeneous and heterogeneous, for the production of biodiesel from low-quality feedstocks, such as algal oil. This also involved the extraction and analysis of biological lipids, for example, using mass spectrometry.
