About Daniel Anderson

While in school I used C++, Python, Java, C#, MATLAB, C, Prolog, Javascript, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, AWS, and SQL. As I've learned different languages and environments I have become more adaptable and comfortable with change. More than any language or framework my education has taught me how to learn and the best place to start is to just start. For my senior project, I created a compiler with a virtual machine in C++. This program had multiple layers and required incremental development and proper testing/error handling techniques. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that you need to write code with maintenance in mind. If you create a program that is highly coupled with low cohesion and/or has no documentation, it will be a nightmare to maintain down the road. In my current job, I work on HP Indigo digital presses. This job helps me improve my problem-solving skills by troubleshooting press malfunctions daily. I've learned that until you understand the problem, you can't properly fix it, understanding the problem is 99% of the work. As soon as you understand if the solution is right in front of you. This idea has also helped me not jump to conclusions and to evaluate with an open mind. Before my education, I managed multiple Subway restaurants and multiple teams for close to fifteen years. This experience improved my people and organizational skills. It taught me the most important thing for any system or plan is the follow-through. You can have a great idea but unless you follow-through with it, it will always fall short. Also, I learned how to work well in a team and how to communicate my ideas and support to those around me. Proper communication helps create a team dynamic and helps everyone be on the same page.
