About Daniel Bates

I’m an experienced analyst and visualisation specialist, specialising in the use of business intelligence to drive insights from large scale datasets. I consult on best practice for data visualisation from BI and data science outputs, and lead on development of complex visualisations and components to deliver engaging content. I have over 10 years of experiencing in undertaking and leading on complex analysis and have an excellent knowledge of the UK’s health and social care sector. As part of the role of a visualisation specialist I have a number of responsibilities- Providing consultation on visualising data through Power BI - Developing custom visuals for internal use - Leading a Power BI community of practice with over 190 report developers and data analysts - Development of visualisation toolkits to ensure best practice of data visualisation across the organisation - Developing Power BI reports for small, medium and larger audiences - Coaching best practice for report development - Writing blogs covering Power BI updates and various visualisation related topics - Development of Power Automate flows - Building Power Apps and integrating them into Power BI reports - Constructing dataflows and datasets using SQL, M-Code and DAX In my previous role as a Senior Analyst I managed and developed products on Power BI and Oracle Analytics Cloud, while also undertaking analysis on health and social care data.
