About Daniel Bibl

Exploring the confluence of engineering and molecular biology has been my passion for over a decade. I believe that applying engineering methodology to the life sciences world is essential to realizing the civilization-changing potential of biology. I am particularly interested in automation, bioengineering, synthetic biology, genetics, and gene therapy. At Twist Bioscience, I have been working under the direction of the CTO since the company's inception to research and develop key technologies critical to the company's success. I helped design and validate the automated platforms we use to both synthesize DNA and to handle and process it downstream. Additionally, I have been involved in the process development and automation of Twist's high throughput molecular cloning process flow. With the advent of DNA as a digital storage paradigm, I have helped to model the system required for an end-to-end solution for the reading and writing of DNA as a digital storage medium. Previously, I was part of a team that engineered baker's yeast to produce beta-carotene to be used in developing countries in order to address the widespread affliction of Vitamin A deficiency, which causes blindness.
