About Daniel Bingham

I’m an academic and scientist passionate about improving the health, well-being, growth, and development of children and young people. My primary research focus is on children’s movement behaviours—such as physical activity and sedentary time—and their relationships with key outcomes like obesity and mental health. I have a particular interest in the measurement, epidemiology, and determinants of movement behaviours, as well as behaviour change theory and the design and evaluation of interventions. Over the past decade, I’ve led and coordinated applied research and evaluation projects using a range of mixed methods, including randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews, observational studies, and process evaluations. Alongside my research, I teach, supervise, and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in public health, supporting the next generation of health researchers and professionals. I’m especially motivated by research that informs real-world practice and policy to create healthier, more active environments for all children.
