About Daniel Burke

I lead communications at Georgetown’s Center on Faith and Justice, where I create content for our website and social media accounts, plan public events, lead outreach to the Georgetown community and beyond, produce The Soul of the Nation podcast and edit a weekly column written by our founder, the Rev. Jim Wallis. From 2013-2020, I was Religion Editor at CNN, where I covered breaking news for the website and network, wrote essays, features and analysis, produced television segments, appeared on air, edited documentaries and led coverage of major news events like the Pope’s visit to the United States. My journalism has received first-place citations and awards from the Society for Features Journalism, the National Headliner Awards, the American Academy of Religion and the Religion News Association, among other organizations. From 2006-2013, I was an editor and national correspondent for Religion News Service. I graduated from a dual-degree program at Columbia University, earning an MS in journalism and MA in comparative religion. Before that, I attended Georgetown University, where a course on "The Problem of God" set me on the path to writing about religion.
