About Daniel Chen

I'm an undergraduate at UW currently conducting single-cell research on pancreatic cancer and COVID-19 patients with previous experience working in a BSL-2 medical microbiology lab. Currently, I'm a lab assistant in the Heath Lab (ISB) and Greenberg/Gottardo Labs (Fred Hutch) working on single-cell based multi-omic analyses of COVID-19 patient PBMCs and pancreatic cancer tumor microenvironments. I'm especially interested in CD8+ and CD4+ T-cells. I have done previous research with the Heath Lab under Dr. Yapeng Su on melanoma patients utilizing similar analyses to examine their transcriptomic and epigenomic states and identify upregulated transcription factors in drug-resistant subpopulations. I previously conducted research under senior postdoctoral fellow Dr. Fosheng Hsu in the Mougous Lab at UW and gained significant experience in bacterial cloning and genetic engineering. This research consisted of using iPSC to investigate M. abscessus, common bacteria in Cystic Fibrosis patients and soft tissue infections. I plan to pursue an MD-PhD degree and research novel treatments and preventative medicine through the application of informatics to the fields of immunology and oncology. I am a highly motivated individual and am willing to spend the extra time and effort to become a valuable member of any team.
