Remote working almost killed me… For all of us COVID brought changes. Good and bad. My ex wife decided to move to Egypt with our daughter. It was one of the worst moments of my life. But it also opened the door to make a change in my life. Since remote working instantly became the default, I decided to take full advantage of it. My awesome GF Carolyn Mcmurray (@wordtonic) and I sold all our shit and moved to Portugal to leave our life in the UK behind. I still can’t believe that we live where most people have holidays! Morning walks and swims on the beach. Surfing along a canvas of the flaming sun dipping behind the ocean. Fresh fish. Sweet fruit from the garden - all year around. I was even able to continue my work. Training founders and managers of agencies - based back in the UK. And all from the comfort of my home. Living the dream! Right? But I felt hollow inside. Everyday. I’m someone who usually pulls myself out of a hole easily… but fuck! This time was hard. I just couldn’t understand why I was feeling so shit - when everything around me was so perfect? One day I was back in the UK organising an event for all of my clients. I had the most amazing time - that’s when it clicked… I need to feel the real life energy of people around me. And there is no piece of technology that will EVER make me feel any different! I had to make a change. I had to combine all the things that make ME happy. And so I did… First letting the people know I was working with, I am changing my career path. Next travelled to Mexico for 2 months to learn everything I could about making the best tacos. And did my first Taco Maroto pop up here in Vila Nova De Milfontes three weeks ago. We sold out 2 days in a row! Thank you to all the people in the agency world who supported me for the first 20 years of my career. Thank you remote working, for making me realise it is not for me.
