About Daniel Durkin

Dr. Durkin is earned a PhD in Social Work from the University of Alabama and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center before going to the University of West Florida where he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and served as Associate Director of the Center on Aging. He also served as Department Chair for a year and a half while an Assistant Professor. He served on the Faculty Senate for three years, serving as Faculty Senate Secretary for one year. He was elected President of the Faculty Senate in 2019; however, he accepted a position at the University of Mississippi before he could serve. He is currently an Associate Professor in the University of Mississippi Department of Social Work. He is in his third year serving on the University of Mississippi Faculty Senate. He is the current Chair (President) of the Faculty Senate having served as the Chair of the Governance Committee and member of the Executive Committee prior to being elected Chair. His research interests include family caregiving for older adults with dementia in the community, the male caregiving experience, and assisting families with the transition to nursing home care.
