About Daniel Ebbin

Daniel is a Human Services Executive and Youth Work Practitioner with nearly 15 years of expertise in youth justice, child protection, corrections, community development and homelessness. As part of the Name.Narrate.Navigate team at the University of Newcastle, he contributes to evidence-based interventions for young people who use and experience violence, while simultaneously pursuing groundbreaking research in Queer Criminology focusing on LGBTIQA+ young people’s experiences of the Australian criminal justice system. Daniel is a Pequot man from southeastern Connecticut and African American, with ancestral ties that connect him to the rich cultural heritage of West and Central Africa. His identity is deeply rooted in both Indigenous North American traditions and the diverse tapestry of African diaspora communities. Daniel brings this unique perspective and cultural foundation to his practice, drawing strength from the wisdom and resilience of his ancestors across continents. Drawing from his award-winning leadership experience in Senior and Executive roles, Daniel specialises in service design, strategic planning, and program implementation across youth justice, child protection, and homelessness services. His leadership and business acumen have been widely recognised, earning him the Lake Macquarie Business Excellence "Outstanding Young Employee" Award and a finalist position for the Hunter Business Awards "Young Business Leader." As an Associate Lecturer at the University of Newcastle and Sessional Academic at University of Technology Sydney, Daniel combines industry experience with academic rigor, teaching the next generation of human services professionals. He holds multiple industry accreditations, including Youth Justice Conference Convenor and Family Group Conference Facilitator certifications. His extensive professional affiliations include the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), Youth Workers Australia, Youth Work NSW, Professional Association of Lecturers in Youth and Community Work (PALYCW), Queer Youth Research Consortium (QYRC), and membership on the NSW Trans and Gender Diverse Criminal Justice System Advisory Council (TGDCJSAC).
