About Daniel Edwards

For me, writing code is not simply a matter of making something that works. Rather, it's a way I can put new strategies to the test and breathe ideas to life. It's also a way I can connect with others.From a young age, I have been enthralled by computers. Even before I could code, I felt it was very satisfying to "revive" old computers that would otherwise have been discarded. Before I studied computer science at the college level, I started dabbling in game development. I got so excited when I managed to make an on-screen character that could react to the player's actions in real time.Since I started working towards my bachelor's degree, I've continued prototyping games, whether for game jams, competitions, or just for fun. I especially enjoy building the tools to create games and streamline the process. For many of my projects, I've extended a built-in code editor, created a code generator, and made a custom character controller, to name a few.Through my projects, I've learned numerous programming concepts, often years before my classes have covered them. I enjoy discovering new techniques and tools, and there have been times that I get so excited about something that I just have to share it with my friends.Where I can, I try to make the most of opportunities to work with others. In one class, our team was tasked with making an online application. In addition to writing code, I maintained diagrams so that we could keep up with the ever-changing network protocol we had developed.In fall 2019, I was the team lead for a VR project at my university's game development club. I organized tasks, wrote player code, and mentored our coders with less experience. I've since been elected club vice president for the 2020/2021 school year, and I look forward to helping the club continue to grow.When I'm not studying or coding, I enjoy biking, reading, and playing piano.If you'd like to chat about programming, game design, or anything tech-related, drop me a line!
