About Daniel Elphick

Dr Daniel Elphick is a musicologist and researcher. His teaching and research focus on the history, analysis, and theory of music, and especially on Russian and East-European music from the nineteenth century to the present. He has published research on Shostakovich, Russian Music, and especially on Weinberg. His first monograph 'Music Behind the Iron Curtain: Weinberg and his Polish Contemporaries' is available from Cambridge University Press. Daniel teaches on a variety of academic and creative topics including historical musicology, music analysis, critical theory, and popular music. He is a Research Fellow of the Centre for Russian Music at Goldsmiths, University of London, and is on the Editorial Board of DSCH, the Shostakovich journal. Dan is also the Communications Officer for the Royal Musical Association (RMA), the UK's foremost society for the study of music.
