About Daniel Elsner

At the University of Vienna, during my historical studies, I got in touch with Digital Humanities and immediately saw an opportunity to combine my interests in history and information technologies. I got the chance to work with several members of the Austrian Center for Digital Humanities in courses at the university and they helped me to remember and refresh my skills but also taught me new ones. Using historical data and analysing them with digital tools as well as creating software for user interactions, started to interest me since. I have created several web pages, starting as of age 16 as fun projects with friends and did continuously educate myself at home in several software programs and languages. My previous occupations have thought me a lot about office culture and how to work as a team member and furthermore as a team leader. As head of department in transport logistics as well as customer relationship management I could gain significant experience about how to build up a team from the ground. Creating new services for customers and maintaining existing services was the main goal of my latest work occupation that started as a start-up. While I got some experience in software development processes during my last work occupation, I was mostly occupied with my previous education in customer services and business. However, I had to closely work with developers and translate customer requests. I also dealt with bug reports and software testing to reproduce bug reports. I took the chance to work in a team and project that teaches me more about software development and academic processes related to digital tools, which is a goal I aimed to achieve. My current work occupation at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Center for Digital Humanities helps me to further my skills in data analysis and software development.
