About Daniel Hieber

I'm currently undertaking my PhD journey, where I explore the fascinating crossroads of machine learning and cancer research, particularly focusing on neuropathology. My work involves using computer vision to automate the analysis of histopathological images, with a special emphasis on studying glioblastoma whole slide images through the NAP (Neural Network Assisted Pathology) project. This initiative aims to bring a new perspective to understanding cancer and refining machine learning methodologies in medical research. Beyond my academic and research activities, I lead the local "KI macht Schule" group in Ulm, an NGO focused on introducing children to artificial intelligence. This role allows me to share my passion for AI with the next generation, hopefully inspiring them to consider how technology can positively impact our future (and which pitfalls you should avoid). In my spare time, I serve as an EMT and firefighter, giving me a more physical alternative to my job while still dedicating the time to my passion in healthcare. Progress cannot be achieved alone.
